Do you already have a residence permit in Norway?
In that case, it is possible that you may not be granted protection (asylum) in Norway. Read more information here.
How do I apply?
You must contact the police and request protection.
As of 15 July 2024, anyone applying for protection must go to Råde to register their application at the National Arrival Centre.
The National Arrival Centre is located in Råde municipality, approximately 116 km south of Oslo Airport (Gardermoen). The nearest border crossing point is Svinesund on the E6 motorway, while the nearest airport is Oslo Airport (Gardermoen).
Address: Mosseveien 58, 1640 Råde.
Contact the police at the National Arrival Centre when you arrive for further assistance.
We cannot offer you a place to stay until you have registered at the National Arrival Centre.
You have to make your own travel arrangements to the National Arrival Centre, which means that you will have to pay for and organise your transportation to the centre. Children travelling alone (unaccompanied minor asylum-seekers) and others in particularly vulnerable situations will be able to get help to travel to the National Arrival Centre. Exceptions can also be made for anyone whose life or health is at risk.
You can choose whether or not you wish to stay at the National Arrivals Centre or in an asylum reception centre. You have to cover your own costs if you choose to stay in private accommodations.

Norway has several different procedures for asylum applicants
- If you are from a country where inhabitants can get help from their own authorities, your asylum application will be rejected within 48 hours.
- If you have been in another European country before coming to Norway, you will be sent back to that country. This is in accordance with the Dublin procedure, which sets out that the country you are sent back to is responsible for considering your asylum case. In these cases, you will not be interviewed by UDI.
- If you have previously been granted protection in a different country that is safe, you may be informed that you need to return to that country without UDI processing your application.
- If you commit a crime and do not need protection, UDI will reject your asylum application fairly quickly.
- All other applicants will have their applications processed pursuant to the normal procedure. Information about waiting times for those who have applied for protection (asylum).
